Oxidation-induced changes in mechanical properties of silicon nitride ceramics
The effect of oxidation on the room-temperature mechanical properties of four different silicon
nitride ceramics is investigated. The strength and the elastic modulus of the whole material and
the hardness, the fracture toughness and the elastic modulus of the internal region (without
surface oxide layer) are determined for the materials oxidized at temperatures up to 1400°C. It
is found that the fracture toughness decreases during oxidation at 1000°C. Reduction of the
elastic modulus of the materials oxidized at 1400°C is also observed. A part of the changes in
the mechanical properties is interpreted by the changes in the phase composition
Pipeline mode in C-based direct hardware implementation
In this paper a methodology is presented that enables the pipeline function of hardware blocks created by C-based direct hardware design. The method is embedded into the C-based design methodology worked out by the authors earlier. This pipeline enabling method is rather flexible, needs no special efforts. With the help of a simple state-machine-based entity, blocks of different execution times can build up the pipeline, even with data-dependent duration. A data-spreading technique solves data consistency. Pipeline sectioning - chosing the right and balanced granularity versus pipelining overhead - is an optimisation matter. Simulation results prove the correctness of the method
Feladatfüggő felépítésű többprocesszoros célrendszerek szintézis algoritmusainak kutatása = Research of synthesis algorithms for special-purpose multiprocessing systems with task-dependent architecture
Ezután dekompozíciós algoritmus megfelelő szegmenseket képez a program alapján. A szegmensek kívánt száma, a szegmenseket megvalósító processzorok főbb tulajdonságai és a becsült kommunikációs időigények megadhatók bemeneti paraméterekként. Kedvező pipeline felépítés céljából a pipeline adatfolyamok magas szintű szintézisének (HLS) módszertanát alkalmaztuk. | A new method and a framework tool has been developed for designing a special multiprocessing structure for making the pipeline function possible as a special parallel processing, even if there is no efficiently exploitable parallelism in the task description. The synthesis starts from a task description written in a high level language (C, Java, etc). A decomposing algorithm generates proper segments of this program. The desired number of the segments, the main properties of the processor set implementing the segments and the estimated communication time-demand can be given as input parameters. For constructing a pipeline structure, the high-level synthesis (HLS) methodology of pipelined datapaths is applied. These tools attempt to optimize by scheduling and allocating the dataflow graph generated from the segments Thus, the resulted structure is not a uniform processor grid, but it is shaped depending on the task, i.e. it can be called task-dependent. The modularity of the method permits the decomposition algorithm and the HLS tool to be replaced by other ones depending on the requirements of the application. For evaluating the method, a specific HLS tool is applied, which can accept the desired pipeline restart time as input parameter, and generates an optimized time shared simple arbitration-free bus system between the processing units. Therefore, there is no need for extra efforts to organize the communication, if the processing units can transfer data directly
HIGH-LEVEL SYNTHESIS USING PREDEFINED IP-S
In this paper, an algorithm is presented for decomposing a system into IP
(Intellectual Property) functional units. The system to be decomposed is
characterized by a complete cover of the set of its behavioral datapath
operations. Such a cover is obtainable at the allocation stage of a
high-level synthesis procedure. Each block of the cover represents a subset
of behavioral operations, which are non-concurrent, i.e., are executable
by the same real resource (processor). Each IP - as a real resource - is
assumed to be specified also by a subset of behavioral operations, the
execution of which is possible and preferred by applying this IP. The
quality constraints of the decomposition are handled as a weighted
composition of several criteria, which may characterize a solution (degree
of reuse, weighted sum of several cost parameters, etc.). Since the problem
is NP-complete \citeDeMicheli94, the quality of the results is illustrated
and evaluated on a widely used benchmark example of practical size
Foreign body impaction in the sigmoid colon
Foreign body ingestion is a common clinical problem in early childhood. However, it may occur even in adults, unknowingly. Most ingested foreign bodies entering the stomach pass through the gastrointestinal tract uneventfully. Here we report on a 13-year-old boy who presented with chronic abdominal pain, weight loss and occult gastrointestinal bleeding for 6 mo. Colonoscopy was negative; however, a ballpoint pen was impacted in the sigmoid region. Subsequently, the child admitted swallowing a pen as a 20-euro bet 6 mo previously. Crohn's disease is a chronic relapsing inflammatory gastrointestinal disease. It is often difficult to diagnose due to the fact that there is no single pathognomonic sign or symptom. This case is a description of an adolescent with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms due to a foreign body. Therefore, an ingested foreign body should be included in the differential diagnostic procedure related to gastrointestinal symptoms

| Optimal and approaching algorithms for the hardware-software partitioning A new graph model has been elaborated, which -compared with earlier models in the literature- provides mathematically easy-to-use practical partitioning algorithms. Korszerű kerámiák újszerű szerkezettel = Advanced Ceramics with Novel Structure
Viszont fellép vonzás a fóliásított grafit nanolemezei és a kerámia részecskék között, ennek hatására a kopás csökken, a vezetőképesség koncentrációfüggése gyengül | The aim of the project was to contribute to the basic knowledge necessary to the development of ceramic composites withstanding to complex hits. The examined composites contained silicon nitride as matrix and one of the modifications of carbon as additive. The finishing step of processing was gas pressure sintering (GPS), hot isostatic pressing (HIP) or spark plasma sintering (SPS). The structure was studied by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, mechanical properties, specific electrical conductivity and some thermal characteristics were determined. The main features of the behavior of studied composites can be explained by supposing that the interaction between the ceramic particles and carbon nanotubes, or carbon black, or graphite is weak. In this case the modulus of elasticity is depends only on the density, and the electrical conductivity is controlled by the shape of the space between the ceramic particles. On the other hand, attractive force occurred between the ceramic particles and exfoliated graphite sheets, consequently the wear of this composites is weaker, its conductivity is smaller than that of materials containing the other carbonaceous modifications
